International conference “The Maastricht Treaty: Taking Stock After 20 Years" (7-8 February, Maastricht University)

The UM is organizing an international conference “The Maastricht Treaty: Taking Stock After 20 Years" on 7-8 February 2012 to assess the legacy of the Maastricht Treaty - which was signed 20 twenty years ago - and to analyse the perspectives on the future of the Euro and the EU.

On Tuesday, 7 February, Wim Kok, former Dutch Prime Minister and Finance Minister, Henning Christophersen, former European Commission Vice-President and Enrique Baron Crespo, former President of the European Parliament, will debate the significance and the legacy of the Maastricht Treaty during a Roundtable debate.

On Wednesday, 8 February, leading academics from Europe and the United States will discuss the origins, development and legacy of the Treaty and examine the way forward for the EU.

The conference will conclude with a keynote lecture on the EU by international best-selling author Parag Khanna, former Advisor on Foreign Policy to Barak Obama and author of How to Run the World.

The conference is aimed at students, but other interested parties can register as well.
